Staffordshire Consultation Impresses Advisory Board

30.10.07

As part of the UKYP ‘fare’s fair’ campaign, Staffordshire MYPs have been sending out consultation questionnaires throughout June and July. This consultation was conducted over 5 weeks and with a donation from the youth service of an iPod, Sam Thomas, MYP for Staffordshire, was able to run a competition with all completed questionnaires put into the draw to win the iPod Nano. The response was staggering with 1175 responses in just 5 weeks and as a result, the questionnaire was taken to the annual sitting to be used nationally by all MYPs and DMYPs.

After the very tedious job of collating all the results, with a lot of help from fellow MYPs and DMYPs, the results were put into pie charts to present to the Staffordshire Advisory Body for young people.

The Staffordshire Advisory Body for young people gives the members of UKYP and the Youth Action Koucil (YAK) in Staffordshire the opportunity to consult with County Councillors as well as invited guests. Invited guests at this presentation included the Managing of First Travel in North Staffordshire, the Managing Director of D&G travel as well as representatives from Arriva and members from the county's transport department.

The presentation had a great response, with members from the public transport sector saying that they would be willing to cooperate if public transport was subsidised as they currently do with OAP passes.

Sam is now taking his presentation to the public transport scrutiny meeting of the West Midlands Regional Assembly to see their response.
