Transport for London (TFL) have released figures demonstrating a fall in school run car journeys by 3.3 million as a result of their school travel plan intiative.
The departments initiative has cut the number pupils driving to school by 6.4% since 2005. Once these plans are implemented througout London, TFL predict there will be 6 million fewer car journeys made in the capital.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson expects all schools to have a travel plan in place by 2009. He said: "We have all experienced the congestion, safety and pollution problems associated with the school run, so it should be applauded that there is now increasingly successful work going on - with TfL working in partnership with schools and local communities - to tackle the issue."
